UMW was the first company in Malaysia to introduce the donation through payroll giving scheme to Majlis Kanser Nasional (MAKNA) since 1999 and it remains one of the largest contributors to MAKNA under the payroll project.

UMW CSR activities are not confined to Malaysia, we are always on hand to support medical and humanitarian relief efforts in times of natural disaster.  We contributed RM50,000 to MERCY operations in assisting Cyclone Nargis victims in Myanmar.  Our Myanmar office was used by MERCY Malaysia as a base for their relief work and we also provided transportation and logistics facilities. 
 
UMW also contributed RM 250,000 to the China Earthquake Relief Fund which included donations from UMW’s very own employees and our overseas joint-venture business partners.
 
UMW has also made a commitment to provide MERCY Malaysia with a grant to assist vulnerable communities in Malaysia. Funds from the grant will specifically be channelled towards long-term health programmes as well as education and capacity building programmes, during and after times of emergency. The grant also includes vehicle sponsorship for MERCY Malaysia Headquarters and its Sabah and Sarawak State Chapters’.
