UMW have pledged to contribute RM2 Million in 5-years to Yayasan Tun Mohamed Ali, an organisation which provides scholarship for exceptional students to enrol in world-renowned universities and sponsor research programmes at local ones.
UMW under the Pintar (“Promoting Intelligence, Nurturing Talent, Advocating Responsibilities”) Programme adopted 4 primary schools. The PINTAR programme is a joint-venture among government-linked companies (GLCs), the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Education and is aimed at improving student performance in rural areas. As part of the programme, UMW has organised motivational workshops, sponsored tuition classes and workbooks for all four of our adopted PINTAR schools.
UMW rewards PMR high achievers through the UMW PMR Achievement Award for secondary schools around Shah Alam. To-date more than 259 students have benefitted from this programme.
UMW has also provided scholarships for selected outstanding students from local Universities.
On top of helping students achieve first-rate academic performance, UMW has taken a holistic approach towards education by also encouraging children to develop and pursue healthy, extra-curricular interests such as music. UMW has been a proud supporter of the school band at Sekolah Menengah Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah since 1982, through the provision of annual grants and contribution of uniforms and musical instruments.
