PERUSAHAAN OTOMOBIL KEDUA (PERODUA)
PERODUA is a leading automotive manufacturer in the local automotive industry, with aspirations of becoming a global organization and it is an associate company of UMW Holdings by virtue of UMW Corporation’s 38% equity stake in Perodua.
There are currently two subsidiary companies in the Perodua which are:
- Perodua Sales Sdn Bhd – This company is involved with the marketing and distribution of motor vehicles, related spare parts and other related activities.
- Perodua Manufacturing Sdn Bhd – This company is mainly concentrated on manufacturing and assembling of motor vehicles.
Currently Perodua has exported its vehicles to six countries namely, Indonesia, Singapore, Mauritius, Fiji and Sri Lanka.
A facelift version of the Perodua Myvi was launched in January 2015, featuring the tagline ‘A Malaysian Icon Made Better.’ This was followed by the roll out of a new line of accessories called GearUp. In April, the first wave of GearUp accessories was designed for the Axia and later extended to the Myvi in May, in conjunction with Myvi’s 10th anniversary celebrations. Perodua Axia is the Malaysia’s first energy-efficient vehicle which was launched on 15 September 2014 and it was Perodua’s top-selling model in 2015.
Perodua also launched its UFirst Website, a customer loyalty programme and UFirst Perodua Passport Mobile App (Google Play/Apple Appstore) in 2015. The UFIrst Perodua Passport App is the first automotive mobile app in Malaysia that offers entertainment, privileges, deals, discounts and other general benefits.
To further solidify Perodua’s pole position in the automotive segment, Perodua Sales Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Perodua, and PETRONAS Lubricants Marketing (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (PLMM), a wholly-owned subsidiary of PETRONAS Dagangan Bhd inked a RM355 million deal for the latter to supply 17 million litres of engine oil to Perodua, an increase of 21% over the previous contract, for a period of 5 years on 1 June 2016.The contract is a continuation of an existing genuine oils partnership between the two companies since 2003. The long term partnership is not just a business transaction but a clear testimony of Perodua’s confidence in PETRONAS’ capabilities to supply quality products and unparalleled services. The contract renewal witnessed the launch of a higher grade engine oil which exceeds the API SM standard and is catered for Perodua customers servicing their vehicles at independent workshops or on their own.
Besides that, Perodua Sales Sdn Bhd, a fully-owned subsidiary of Perodua, and PERDA-TECH, a training organisation under the Lembaga Kemajuan Wilayah Pulau Pinang (PERDA) officially opened the Perodua Technical Training Centre at the PERDA-TECH facility in Nibong Tebal, Penang on 5th May 2016. The Perodua Technical Training Centre is set up specifically to train students on technical knowledge pertaining to automotive mechanics and maintenance.The centre is used as a training lab for PERDA-TECH students and in return PERDA-TECH will allow Perodua Sales to conduct training for some 1,000 staff in the northern region of the country at its location. Not only that, Perodua will also train the lecturers from PERDA-TECH on automotive knowledge, which include automotive mechanics and maintenance, over a 6-month modular after which these lecturers will be able to train PERDA-TECH students. PERDA was established on 1st June 1983 under the 282 Act under the Unit Penyelasaran Pelaksanaan, Jabatan Perdana Menteri (ICU, JPM) on 1 August 2005. PERDA-TECH is a training institution under PERDA. Currently, PERDA-TECH offers 19 courses in various fields and has 1,179 students at its Nibong Tebal campus.
